This year, families will spend £54bn on vacations

The rise in popularity of staycations is expected to be a major contributor to the increase in the total amount of money that will be spent on vacations by families

This year, families are expected to spend £54 billion on vacations. This is because staycations are becoming more popular.

It is anticipated that spending on domestic vacations will reach £15.7 billion, which is 9 percent more than in 2019. It is anticipated that the total amount would reach £38.2 billion, which is 12 percent lower than the figure for 2019 which was £43.3 billion.

Almost three quarters of those who participated in the survey stated that the sight of long lines at airports has discouraged them from travelling until the problems are resolved.

In addition, eight out of ten people reported that they were likely to take a staycation during the next two years.

More than half of those surveyed reported that they were unable to afford to travel to the same extent as they had in the years prior to the pandemic.

One third were concerned that disruptions due to Covid could mar their holiday plans.

Inflation - including the cost of travel and car hire - together with airport disruptions and the ongoing uncertainty regarding Covid-19 are some of the challenges holidaymakers are having to deal with at the moment.

Because of the rising cost of living, vacationers will have no choice but to carefully prioritise their spending. It will take longer for short trips overseas and city breaks to recover as Brits prioritise their primary holiday, while lower-cost staycations and camping getaways will perform strongly.
