Tesla Megapack batteries will power Apple's solar farm.

Apple has announced plans to power its Apple Park, a solar farm in California, with Tesla's "Megapack" batteries at its new battery-based renewable energy storage facility. According to the company, the facility will store 240 megawatt-hours of energy; this is enough to power almost 7,000 houses for a single day. The installation will include 85 Tesla Megapack battery energy storage systems, first announced in 2019. The electricity is used at the company's headquarters to power the company's headquarters.

Best known for its electric vehicles, Tesla has expanded its solar power business in recent years.

According to the company's end-of-year financial filing, "energy generation and storage" accounted for 6% of total revenue in 2020, up 30% from 2019.

Apple stated in a statement that it is investing in utility-scale storage in California and developing novel energy storage technologies while also expanding distributed storage capabilities in Santa Clara Valley and through Apple Park's microgrid.

Apple's worldwide business operations are now carbon neutral, and this additional pledge implies that by 2030, every Apple gadget sold will have a net-zero climate effect. In addition, the corporation has pledged $4.7 billion in Green Bonds to assist environmental projects throughout the world.

Apple is actively working with all of its global suppliers to assist them in reaching their carbon neutrality targets. It offers training and instruction to assist them in implementing sustainable approaches in their processes.

For the time being, Apple and Tesla do not compete in any industries. However, with both businesses in the autonomous car driving market, things might alter in the future.
